Top Heavy
Mikey has been practicing tummy time, but his head is so big that his center of gravity is way up high, causing him to tip over.

Sleep training
This week we decided to start training him to sleep on his own for naps. The reality hit that his napping schedule was suboptimal when I realized that I will have to go back to work next week and he was not at all prepared to nap on his own!
Previously, he would nap on the swing in the morning and then nap with me holding him in the afternoon. He would then be put to bed at around 9:30 and then sleep until about 6 or 7am. However, for the 2 days in a row he refused to nap in his swing anymore and would be fussy all day.
So, I decided I would dedicate my last week with him before returning to work, staying at home, and making sure he was sleep trained. We followed "Healthy sleep habits, happy child", which stated that it could work in a couple of days.
Day 1, Tuesday: It was a horrible day and I was so stressed out I got 2 stress pimples that evening. It was very hard to hear him crying all day and looking so frowny and upset all the time since he was not sleeping. He cried so hard and long that he choked on his tears several times and had to cough! And he even shed one little tear-a first! He would cry about 15-20min usually before taking his nap. Luckily, I was out of the house during his longest crying spell of about 2 hours during his bedtime. Good thing it was Eli at home and not me, because I would have broken down and picked him up. He only took 2 short naps about 30 min the whole day, so went down at 8:30pm from exhaustion.
Day 2, Wednesday: Much easier day than yesterday. He yawned a lot throughout the day, which I took as a good sign because now he was realizing how sleepy he was instead of being so wired from all of the adrenalin. And we thought we had a really curious baby. He was just too wiled up from the hormones! A LOT less crying when I put him down. In fact, several times when I placed him in his crib, he would just stare at the mobile quietly, then would fuss for about 2-3 min before falling asleep. AMAZING! None of that wailing that happened yesterday. Nap times were still short, but longer than the previous day.
Day 3, Thursday: Michael had little to no fussing today, and his long 3 hour nap this afternoon had no crying whatsoever! Nap times in the morning are still short, about 25-30 minutes, but he's able to fall asleep without much fussing beforehand. He also slept 12 hours last night, waking twice to feed. We've come a long way since Tuesday!
Day 4, Friday: Not as good a day as yesterday. No long naps, but multiple 20-30 min naps. Maybe the constant sounds of gardening from all the neighbors kept him up this afternoon? Pretty grumpy towards the late afternoon and fussed for about 15 min before going to sleep for the evening. Also woke up multiple times crying in the evening during the first hour of putting him to bed, but then slept for 12 hours after.
It's only been four days and I think we've made a lot of progress so far: he now gets about 12 hours of sleep at night and I think most importantly, he is now used to being in his crib to sleep. Although I still am kinda worried about his naptimes, it's nice to have the evenings to ourselves again!

Tummy time in activity gym
Michael is improving on his tummy time and can stay longer on his stomach without complaining. He had a lot of fun in his activity gym yesterday-
He still gets camera shy and will stop what he's doing to stare at the camera:
Had a fleeting instant of not happy:
Staring at Mr Giraffe and Mr Elephant:
Finally noticing the animals on the floor of the mat!

Hello Moose!
We went to go visit Moose, Irene and Tim's new puppy. Moose was adorable and is almost the same age as Mikey . Unfortunately, we weren't able to stay too long to play with him because Mikey decided he had to take a big poo, which leaked down his leg, through his onesie, and leaking through his clothes. Messy!

Tricky Mikey
Sometimes it takes forever to nurse Michael, and I recently found out why. He falls asleep but pretends to keep on sucking.

Baby Bjorn
We went to the Arts and Wine Festival this weekend with Mikey and had him in the carrier for the very first time. He fell asleep in it right away, although I was kinda paranoid since his face was totally squished against Eli. Glad he likes it, now we can hopefully go out more.

Michael's Red Egg and Ginger Party
We had Michael's red egg and ginger party today at Yet Wah in San Francisco. Many of Michael's new uncles and aunties came by to say hello and celebrate with him. There was a lot of food, and of course, beer.

2 months old
Michael had his 2 month check up today. Poor guy is a small fry.
Height: 21 1/4 inches (5-10th percentile)
Weight: 10 lbs (10th percentile)
Head circumference: 38.5 cm (5-10th percentile)

This past month:
- We found out that Michael really hates daytime naps. We would catch him really sleeping with those sleepy eyes, almost drifting off to sleep, and then he would force them open and be wide awake. Argh! Why won't ge nap. However, we found a little trick for getting him to nap (although really short naps) so that he is closer to getting recommended amount of sleep. Since it's been a battle for us because he does not like napping in his crib or in the pack n play, we just put him in the swing and he drifts off to sleep. However, he wakes up whenever we stop the swing, so now he just keeps on swinging during the whole time he is napping. Let's just hope he will grow out of it and not become too dependent on swinging for all of his daytime naps in the future.
- His nighttime schedule has been consistent since about week 4, and we have been lucky that he at night he just sleeps, feeds, and then falls asleep again with no fussing.- Michael moved back into his own room. It was earlier than anticipated, but I think it was better for all of us. Michael's room is cozier since it doesn't have the high ceilings that our bedroom has, so supposedly he should sleep better since babies can somehow sense vast areas of space. I like it better so I don't have to hear his whining, whimpering, little grunting, and squeaking noises that he makes before he falls asleep.
- He has been practicing tummy time, but still does not like it : ( He's pretty successful with tummy time when it's on our body and can lift his head up pretty high, almost 90 degrees. But he has to be in the mood.
BTW: Since getting his vaccines today, Michael has been sleepy all day today, taking naps all day long. So THIS is what it feels like to have a napping baby!

Bumbo chair
Since we found that Michael likes to be upright, looking around, we decided to get him a Bumbo so that we don't have to constantly hold him upright. This was taken during his first sitting in the chair. You can see he's clearly enjoying himself:

Little rolls
This morning I hit the jackpot.
Before feeding Michael, I noticed that his sleeper was a little damp. Thinking it was probably pee, I took him out of it and then nursed him while he was in his undershirt and diapers. I was burping Michael after his morning feed and then he decided to poop. Well, the poo leaked out of the side of his diaper and got all over me! So then, I decided to give him a mini bath in the sink to rid him of all the poo down the side of his leg. I had his thingy covered with a towel prior to the bath, but then when I removed the towel, I guess he decided he had to go pee. So, pooed and peed on within 5 min.

I took this photo after his mini bath session. He's developing little fat rolls on his legs and arms. So cute, and I can't wait until they get bigger!

Sears Point AMA Races
Roger managed to score some VIP tickets to watch AMA races at Sears Point with Michael Jordan's team, so that's what we did in Sonoma.
Lucky dog Rog also scored a 2-up ride-along on the back of a race bike for 1 lap around the track. He seemed to like the view from the back seat...

Miitens
Michael with the Miitens that his Goo-goo made for him. Now he'll look like one of the Wii characters once he can stand up.
